Assignment Instructions
In groups of 2-4, please select one investment for each time period:
- Next 6 months
- Between 1-2 years
- Between 3-5 years
You may select any company (private or public), or asset (including real estate, commodity, ETF, country ETF, bond, alternative investments, industry, products, etc). Be creative.
As a group, you must present the hypothesis behind either going long or short that investment along with your method of entering that investment. The method of investment can be as simple as buying a stock or ETF. It can also be as complicated as buying a real business and rehiring active managers in another country to benefit from geographic arbitrage such as short-term rentals in other countries. In your presentation, present evidence, and support for your thesis either via data or historical support or any related information that may be helpful. Also, provide a reasoning and support for the time frame for each investment.
Along with the presentation, you will need to critique the investments of another group. You will be randomly assigned to be the contrarian to question the thesis of the presenting group. In the critique, you will be evaluated by the quality of your questions and critical thinking. As a group, you may focus on any investment idea that is presented. Please provide challenges based on theory and not judgments or opinions.
